We are happy to announce that we are completely re-vamping our Bellevue trivia night by bringing in “the pros.” That’s right, from here forward our trivia night will be run by none other than the fine folks at “Geeks Who Drink.”
This will be welcome news to our trivia fans because we can finally claim that we know what we’re doing–’cause we’re not doing it anymore! (This is a case where you win by us outsourcing!)
So, tell your friends and come on in every Wednesday from 7pm-9pm in the Nomu Lounge above Blue C and Boom Noodle. May the “smartest” team win.
For years we have contemplated hosting the ultimate sushi eating showdown and 2010 proved to be the year to pull the trigger and make it happen. Why now? Well, it turns out that our guests are very loyal to particular Blue C stores so we decided we could add an extra layer of interest by having eating contest winners from each store compete against each other for the ultimate bragging rights. Think you have what it takes to represent? If so, here is how the competition works.
Each of our six stores will host a qualifying competition wherein 5 eaters battle it out to carry the flag of “Store Champion”. Each Store Champion will receive a $50 Blue C gift card and additional Blue C gear. Most importantly, they will advance on to the final round that will be held at our original Fremont location in mid April. All contests will be to see who can eat the most plates of cucumber rolls in a 10 minute period.
How do you get to be one of the five contestants at each store? Simple - just email us at eatingcontest@bluecsushi.com. List your top three store locations, in order of preference, and tell us why we should pick you to participate. There is no entry fee, but you will need to sign a waiver.
The final competition will follow the same format as the individual store competitions. The grand prize winner will receive an official Blue C Sushi Eating Competition Winner T-Shirt, a Blue C Plate Set and $200 cash!
The store contest dates are as follows; each competition will take place at 2:30pm:
March 20th – Fremont
March 21st – University Village
March 27th – Alderwood
March 28th – Southcenter
April 10th – Bellevue
April 11th – Downtown
Good luck and we hope to hear from you soon!
The fine print: No entry fee. Must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Must sign waiver. If store winner cannot be present for the final competition, the 2nd place contestant will advance in their absence.
For those of you who are completely dialed-in to all things Japanese you will be stoked to learn that as of today the University Village will be serving-up cream puffs from Beard Papa’s on the belt. For those of you thinking, “Beard what?” Let us explain.
Beard Papa’s is the ever famous cream puff maker from Japan. Their small cream puff stands can be found all over Tokyo, and over the last few years they have come over to the U.S. Why are they so great? For starters, they don’t come pre-filled in a plastic bag and filled with preservatives. Each cream puff is individually injected, and we intend to do the same thing to each puff before it gets placed on the conveyor belt. Beard Papa has a big following and we are thrilled we received their blessing to bring them into Blue C.
We’re starting our trial in the University Village, and we hope to bring Beard Papa to other stores once we work out all of the logistics, of course! Read more about the history of Beard Papa’s here.
Thanks to the blog Geekology we found a super cool map of the Tokyo Subway–only it wasn’t the subway lines at all. It’s a map of webtrends in the form of the famous subway map. When you get a minute, check out the interactive map here. It just goes to show you what a little extra free time in your day can do for your creative juices.
It seems residents of Tokyo have taken notes from Paris Hilton on how to best treat your pet. Just like Tinkerbell these posh pets are given the star treatment. At shops and salons like Wag Style in Yoyogi Uehara, dogs can get anything from anti-aging oxygen treatments, to hoity toity birthday cakes to full course figure friendly meals. Now, we’re all for animal rights, but this is almost unfair in the other direction.
Most people don’t envision themselves sunbathing on a slow flowing river in a bathtub and there’s good reason for that, but in Japan anything can happen. Back in the olden days many people would gather around the Matsukawa River to bath themselves and wash their clothes in round wooden tubs. Soon thereafter, they realized these tubs could be used as small boats. And because boys will be boys, they obviously soon realized they could race them down the river, and so the tradition began. It has been 54 years since this annual race first began to attract tourists, and this year there were 200 participants.
We all know tire swings are traditional on school playgrounds, but in Japan (like usual) they take the tire to another level. This Tokyo park, Nishirokugo Koen, has equipment made from mostly recycled tires. How about we get one of these puppies in a Seattle park?
You don’t have to be an adolescent boy to appreciate a good prank. Well, at least we don’t. Our design team is drawing up a rendering for this artificial floor in our next build-out….beware!
A tuna has been sold at auction Tuesday at Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji fish market for 16.28 million yen, or $175,000, the highest price paid in Japan for nine years. The fish weighed in at 232 kg, equivalent to about 4 Japanese men, or about 2 American football players!
The last time we went to Tsukiji someone dragged a recently purchased tuna over Steve’s (co-founder of Blue C) foot. “It felt like someone ran over my foot with a car.” If you ever happen to go to the tuna auctions that is one part of the experience you should try to avoid…
Blue C Sushi is Seattle's premier kaiten sushi restaurant. Five (and counting) locations in the greater Seattle area, there's goodness in motion for everyone!
